The New District!
Hello everyone! I think the first official trailer was a great success judging by the views and all the kind comments that were left (which I really appreciate, by the way!) I will be releasing another trailer down the line that will serve as the release date reveal with more content. I’m not sure when that will drop, since I’m still focusing on tidying up the remaining few maps, but I’m trying hard my friends!
The one that I’ve been working on since the trailer is the Pinefield District map (now simply called District) which ironically contains way more birch trees than pines π In terms of the layout, it makes much more sense now and connects to the Supermarket area.
I remember how non-sensical the mod maps were, with the main road leading to a dead-end with no way for the vehicle to turn around, cut off by a large field of wheat that had an office building in the middle of it for some reason, only for the road to resume on the other side of the wheat field and lead to a supermarket! What in the hell was I smoking when I made that…π
Anyway, after this map is complete, I’ll clean up the Apartment map (this time, Donovan is returning home to his own apartment for supplies instead of stumbling onto a random one)

Hey man! Thanks for posting that! I’m really happy you enjoyed the game! There’s a discord here https://discord.gg/CXPFc58pqW Drop on by! π
Long, I’ve got a not so short story for you.
I was a Junior in high school when I first discovered your UT2K4 mod. To me it was my most anticipated game by a long shot. This was back before the zombie genre became mainstream and I only had a mid-range PC at the time. I didn’t have the money to buy games like Left 4 Dead, or CoD WaW to no-life its Nazi Zombies mode.
So, the idea of playing a dark, gritty and hellish zombie horror game that looked as compelling and unique as Out of Hell did for free was enough to etch itself in my mind indefinitely. I waited patiently and eventually moved on to being excited about other games. Halo 3 came out, I finally got an Xbox360, finished high school, grew up, moved on. Somehow despite my extreme excitement for the mod, I completely forgot about it until yesterday February 12th, 2026. A full seventeen years since the mod released. My install files for UT2004 were corrupted and I began scouring the internet to recover all the characters, maps, etc. I had played with for years. That’s when I rediscovered your mod.
I finally booted it up this morning and I can confidently say that it was worth the wait. What a freaking beast of a game. Not that “Beast” though. *wink wink*
I am in love with the atmosphere of the game. So much attention to detail. Such an impressive work and all pro-bono. It’s a wildly accomplished game and I am so thrilled to now learn that you have been toiling away on a full standalone remake.
I really appreciate the quality of your writing, the music is excellent and I am so excited all over again to finally get my hands on Out of Hell, for the second time.
-A longtime fan.
Can’t wait.
P.S. Is there a Discord for the game?
