Just a heads up that a Game Review series called Better Late Than Never did a compilation video on some games that you should check out while you’re in the Halloween mood and Out Of Hell was one of them! It’s a great video and showcases some games that would be worth your time to scout out, one of my favorites being Survival Crisis Z.
Check the video out here: http://blip.tv/bltn/trick-or-treat-feature-2012-6419176
Huge thanks to Ryan for putting this together and to everyone else, have a Happy Halloween!
I’d like to start out by thanking everyone who voted in the poll, so Thank You all very much! I have a certain direction that I want to take this game in but it is always a good idea to consider the feedback of those who are going to be playing the game. The numbers speak for themselves and it is apparent that most people would prefer that it played out in the First-Person.
So here it is! I implemented a True First-Person Camera thanks to a framework developed by Kris Redbeard. Below is a direct link to the framework available on his site and a video of the True First-Person camera in action. It’s awesome!

Below you can see I’ve adapted the framework (Please note that it is using a default UDK Player model and Weapon)
The only thing that I have not implemented is Head Tracking (The head moving independant of the body with the usage of a web cam) as it requires a commercial license of faceAPI by seeingmachines.
As for the name of the project, it will now be called Infernal Dead. For those that donated to the Daemonicon fund, the perks will of course transfer over to Infernal Dead.
In Out Of Hell related news, Justin is selling the Out Of Hell OST on his site so drop on by and check it out! It includes high-quality versions of all the songs that he composed for the game as well as a bunch that were not included so be sure to have a look!

I’ll wrap things up for now and will have some new visual content for the next update. I am also on the lookout for a prop modeler who is interested in working on a contract basis. If you can unwrap/texture and create medium poly assets, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line with a link to your portfolio and we’ll talk!
Just wanted to give you all a heads up on a couple of changes I’ve been thinking about lately. First, I will be changing the name of this game from ‘Daemonicon‘ to something else. There is actually another game with a similar name in the works that is due to hit next year and in order to avoid any confusion, I have decided to rename this project. I have some ideas but have not decided on what it should be called yet. Until I make my choice and trademark the new name, ‘Daemonicon‘ will merely be the ‘Working Title‘.
Second, many people have voiced their desires to have ‘Daemonicon‘ play out in first-person view instead of third-person. I am currently looking into switching to a ‘True First-person‘ view (being able to see your body/limbs and moving your view independent of your body) but would need some more feedback on what you would like. I would prefer not to have switching between the two modes, so please vote for one below as this will determine whether or not I go ahead and try implementing a first-person camera or stay with the current third-person setup.
Also, a great fellow by the name of NinjaPotato has created a full HD walkthrough of Out Of Hell! He does a very thorough job and takes his time to explore the game, so go ahead and check it out here! I know it takes a lot of time and effort to do something like this so many thanks to you NinjaPotato!
Developer Journal for Out Of Hell (UT2K4 Mod)
There was never any sort of Post-Mortem for Out Of Hell (UT2K4 Mod) which I realize I should have made a long time ago. I hope that there are still some people out there who would find it interesting to read about some of my design decisions, the process and progression of art.
It will contain some PLOT SPOILERS and you better have a sandwich on hand because it’s going to be a long read!
Lately I’ve been catching up on many posts on different forums and other places about Out Of Hell. It’s been about 2 years since the release and people are still downloading the game and referring others to it! Out Of Hell is flawed in many aspects, there is no doubt about it but there are a lot of people who still say some really kind and encouraging things about the experience as a whole and that just feels really, really great. THANK YOU for your constant support guys and gals!
So initially I was just going to add a few more Media screens and upload some videos to the Out Of Hell Downloads section but just thought I’d throw in a few of the other Daemonicon Monster skins I had done previously too.
Some of the Daemonicon alt skins:
I also have another interesting surprise. Below are 4 concept screens I did as part of a pitch for the Out Of Hell Remake project titled ‘Out Of Hell: Resurrection‘.
Nothing became of it obviously but I still have the materials and if you visit the Out Of Hell Downloads section (or grab it directly from here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/3sl35d ) there is a video of a small wooded area I did for the remake. Only a handful of people have ever seen it until now and I thought you’d enjoy seeing what it was!
**EDIT** Just to avoid any confusion, Out Of Hell: Resurrection is not currently in development. These materials were created as part of a pitch to potential publishers back in 2010.
Hello!
I apologize for the lull but not long after the funding drive was over, I was offered a new job (which I took) and that has been consuming much of my time. Unfortunately, development has slowed just a bit because I’m away for much of the day and by the time I get home, I’m just really tired. Not to worry though, as I’ve been doing things this way for years (those who stood by me through the Out Of Hell years are familiar with that) I will always find time for my projects because they are my passion and I’m working towards a day when I can concentrate solely on creating games and game art.
With that said, here is a peek at the first ‘Human’ character in the world of Daemonicon!
The Military Faction maintains quarantine and will eradicate all hostiles on sight, including any humans who are ‘uncooperative’. It is possible to befriend some Operatives in the field but that is dependent on the player.
Here are 2 more sets of weapons that are available to the player. Most weapons can be upgraded or altered in some way to increase their effectiveness. There are still a few weapons left which I haven’t shown including traps, explosives and arcane artifacts.
The next update will most likely be an environment update (in-game screens) but because of my schedule, I won’t be certain when that will be. Regardless, if you have any questions or suggestions, stop on by the forums or drop me an email!
I wish I had something a little more thoughtful to say but nothing I write can truly express my gratitude to the people who contributed to and supported the project during it’s time of need. My appreciation will be shown through the art for the world to see. Thank you for your generosity.
